The landfill in the Krasnoslobodsky district began to be reclaimed within the framework of a national project, the press service of the head of the Republic of Mordovia reported on April 27.
The elimination is carried out thanks to the regional project “Clean Country”, which is part of the national project “Ecology”.
Work on the site began in spring 2023 and is on schedule. Here more than 60,000 cubic meters of waste will be recovered on 3.5 hectares of land and landscaping works will be carried out on almost four hectares.
First, the landfill masses were placed in temporary landfills and then a pit was prepared for laying bentonite mats. They will be placed in a sand-based anchor trench. The mass from the landfill will then be transferred to them. In the future, collection and elimination systems for volatile substances will be installed. At the end of the recovery, a biological stage will be carried out: this is work to restore the fertility of the land.
As of today, the installation is 39% complete. The reclamation of the landfill will end this year.
Let us remember that the regional project “Clean Country” aims to recover the most dangerous objects of accumulated environmental damage and eliminate unauthorized landfills within the city limits. It is expected that as a result of the implementation of the project, the demographic situation of the country and the quality of life of the population will improve significantly.
The national project “Ecology” is one of the national projects of Russia for the period from 2019 to 2024. The project aims to radically change the impact on the environment, move to a rational environmental management model and improve the quality of life of 20 million Russians living in unfavorable environmental conditions.
The main objectives of the project are the elimination of the largest landfills; construction of complexes for processing, recycling and waste disposal; improve the quality of drinking water; reduce air pollution levels in 12 Russian cities; environmental rehabilitation of water bodies, including the Volga and Baikal; Biodiversity Conservation; creation of 24 new specially protected natural spaces.
The volume of financing of the project will amount to about 4.041 billion rubles.
