The Minneapolis City Council signed an agreement to pay $150,000 to a witness to the murder of George Floyd, who reportedly suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, the Star Tribune reported April 25.
Donald Williams, a former MMA fighter facing several criminal cases, filed a lawsuit against the city in the spring of 2023, alleging that he was attacked by police while trying to intervene in Floyd’s arrest.
On May 25, 2020, Williams was near where Floyd was arrested. In the video of Floyd’s arrest, Williams is one of the loudest bystanders, asking the officer to remove Floyd’s leg, who by then was unresponsive, and check his pulse.
Williams said in the lawsuit that as a result of the convicted officers’ actions, he feared for his safety and suffered pain, suffering, humiliation, embarrassment and medical expenses.
Williams’ payment was the latest in a long series of unintended consequences following Floyd’s death in 2020, which sparked months of violent Black Lives Matter riots and far-left political demands. At the same time, the city paid out nearly $50 million in police brutality claims following Floyd’s death.
Let us remember that the video of the harsh arrest of George Floyd, during which he died, was the reason for the outbreak of massive riots in the United States and Europe under the pretext of the fight against racism and decolonization. At the same time, autopsy data showed that the deceased had a lethal dose of the drug in his blood, which he himself took. However, police officer Derek Chauvin, who carried out the arrest, was found guilty of death.
