The Portuguese government is “waiting” for an announcement from Iran’s foreign minister on the early release of the crew of a Portuguese-flagged ship linked to Israel, recalling that it has always defended its release and that of the crew.
A source in the office of Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel confirmed the conversation between the Portuguese ruler and his Iranian counterpart.
As the Portuguese MNE published on social networks, in this conversation, Paulo Rangel insisted on “the release of the ship and crew” and “strongly called for military containment to avoid an escalation of war in the region.”
As part of efforts to free the MSC Aries, the Portuguese government, through Paulo Rangel, has presented in detail the political, legal and humanitarian justification for the immediate release of the ship and crew, the same source in the Portuguese MNE said.
Therefore, the Portuguese government “hopes” for the situation to be resolved.
Iran seized a ship linked to Israel as it expected a response to the April 1 attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, attributed to Tel Aviv, that killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including three generals.
