Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi assured this Saturday that the country is “immune to sanctions” after the United States and the European Union (EU) decided on new restrictions.
“Iran is immune to sanctions and they have never succeeded in Iran. Thanks to the iron strength of these people, [as sanções] they will never succeed,” Ebrahim Raisi said at the opening of Expo Iran 2024, as quoted by state news agency IRNA.
The president called the sanctions “a kind of war” and a symbol of “oppression of governments and peoples.”
On Monday, the European Union reached an agreement to impose sanctions against the production of Iranian missiles and drones and their transfer to Russia.
The US also imposed restrictions on 16 companies and eight people linked to Tehran’s drone program and its deployment in Russia.
The measures came after Tehran launched hundreds of missiles and drones into Israel in response to an attack on its consulate in Syria.
