The United Kingdom plans to equip its military with hypersonic missiles by 2030, the Telegraph newspaper reported on April 28, citing sources.
It is clear from the newspaper report that the UK’s plans to develop a hypersonic missile are still at an early stage and it is not yet clear whether it will be launched from land, sea or air.
“The MoD insists that the new weapon will be designed and assembled entirely in the UK, and it is understood that the deadline for its introduction into service has been set for 2030.”write the newspaper.
A military source in the country’s government told the newspaper that if Labor leader Keir Starmer comes to power in the United Kingdom, the military will have to restrict the hypersonic project due to insufficient investment.
Sources also told the newspaper that the United Kingdom could buy hypersonic missiles from the United States if it is necessary to obtain this type of weapon more quickly.
