Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for an international conference to unite the Palestinian territories, the press service of the World Economic Forum reported on April 28.
During a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Abbas, in particular, said: “It is necessary to organize an international conference to find a political solution for the unification of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip”. According to him, all countries that have not yet recognized the right of the State of Palestine to independence should do so in the same way as they recognized the independence of Israel.
It should be noted that on April 18, at the UN Security Council, the representative of the United States blocked a draft resolution on the admission of Palestine as a full member of the UN.
12 of the 15 member countries of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution: Russia, China, France, Japan, South Korea, Ecuador, Algeria, Malta, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Guyana. Great Britain and Switzerland abstained.
