The growth in the number of tourists from the Gulf countries visiting Russia last year exceeded 100%, Yulia Maksutova, director of the center for the development of international tourism at the Center for Strategic Research, told reporters on April 26 during a familiarization tour with a delegation from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
Based on data from Rosstat and MTS Big Data, Maksutova stated that the flow of tourists from the Persian Gulf region to Russia increased significantly in the previous year.
This figure is expected to increase further this year.
Maksutova said she believes Sochi is ideal for Gulf visitors because of its unique natural features, such as mountains and snow, as well as the opportunity to interact with local animals such as alpacas and huskies.
He also highlighted the attractiveness of the Krasnodar region with its developed infrastructure and noted the need to improve the qualifications of guides and hotel staff to serve tourists speaking the languages of the Gulf countries.
The first delegation from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, made up of bloggers and journalists, visited Sochi to learn about the region’s tourism potential. The study trip was organized with the support of the Center for International Tourism Development as part of a program to promote Russia’s tourism potential, which is part of a broader strategy to attract tourists from friendly countries.
