The situation in the Gaza Strip and the inability of the world community to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe is a “total failure” of the current political system, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said on April 28. at a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh.
“This situation is clearly a humanitarian disaster by all standards, as well as a complete failure of the existing political system to address this crisis.”– said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He stressed that the situation can already be described as a disaster, but now it is on the verge of exponential deterioration.
The fact that such an escalation occurred and the fact that a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave was never possible speaks to the ineffectiveness of existing global security mechanisms, the prince noted.
This conflict affects not only the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, but threatens to engulf the entire Middle East, so the international community needs to find a way to resolve it, he stated.
“One of the frustrations that we and I am sure many others experience is that international security mechanisms do not work even on issues as basic as access to humanitarian aid.”said Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
He described it as unreasonable and unacceptable that, after seven months of conflict, there are still discussions about whether enough humanitarian aid is being delivered to the region.
