China has not confirmed or denied throughout this Saturday that the second “spy balloon” detected by the US and that this time flies over Latin America belongs to it.
The Pentagon, after declaring this Thursday through the mouth of its spokesman, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, that they had discovered what they called a Chinese “spy balloon” that was flying over the state of Montana (northwestern USA), announced yesterday the detection of a new aircraft in Latin American skies.
This last accusation has not received a reply by the Chinese authorities, which this Saturday have only released separate statements dedicated to clarifying the situation created by the aircraft that flies over the US. Nor do the different official media make any mention of the white flying object that according to the newspaper La Nación de Costa Rica was flying over the Central American country.
For its part, if a user performs a search on Weibo -equivalent to Twitter, censored in China- using Chinese characters for the words “globe” or “aircraft” together with the term “Latin America”, only three publications appear about yesterday’s announcement by US part
The discovery of the first of these “spy balloons” in US airspace has sparked a diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing and has motivated the suspension of the trip that the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, had planned to make to the Asian country this weekend.
Beijing admitted this Friday that the balloon that flies over the US belongs to it, although it assured that “it is a civil airship used for research purposes, mainly meteorological“.
Following the announcement, the director of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Office, Wang Yi, had a telephone conversation with Blinken, in which he asked the US “keep calmcommunicate on time, avoid misjudgment and control differences”.
