The SDP said this Monday that it would urgently summon the president of the Social Security Institute to Parliament “so that she can provide all the explanations and so that it can be demonstrated once and for all whether it was a political decision of the previous government to deceive pensioners for electoral purposes.” Hugo Soares accused the PS government of deceiving pensioners and retirees with provisional withholding amounts from the IRS.
According to Hugo Soares, it “necessarily” must be clear “whether there is a direct indication of this.”
At issue are adjustments Social Security said it will make as it changes IRS withholding tables for 328,000 retirees between April and May to correct withholdings made in January of this year.
