The White House condemned this Wednesday “a small percentage of students who are rioting” after a night of clashes and arrests on some American campuses where protests against the war in the Gaza Strip took place.
“Students have the right to go to class and feel safe,” executive spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said at a news conference, adding: “We will continue to emphasize that anti-Semitism must be condemned.”
The spokeswoman said the war in Gaza is a “painful time” and that “Americans have the right to demonstrate peacefully.” However, he reiterated that the White House does not consider the occupation of the building by students at Columbia University in New York a “peaceful” demonstration.
