Advisor and spokesman to the President of Guinea, António Oscar Barbosa, assured this Thursday in Lisbon that the country is ready to accept the presidency of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) in June.
“Guinea-Bissau is ready to accept the presidency of the CPLP. He recently took office as President of ECOWAS and has performed brilliantly in this post. [Comunidade dos Estados da África Ocidental]”, he decreed.
António Oscar Barbosa speaks at a press conference called by the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau “to clarify the reasons that led to the dissolution of the National People’s Assembly and the appointment of a government at the initiative of the President” in December 2023.
“It is easier to be the president of the CPLP because we speak the same language, we understand each other faster than speaking in a community where there is Portuguese, French and English,” he added, referring to the sub-regional organization in West Africa.
“Therefore, as long as there is good will within, we have no problems. The rest will be in the interests of everyone, and everyone wants to strengthen the CPLP, make it work the way its creators intended,” he further emphasized.
Antonio Oscar Barbosa stressed that President Sissoko Embalo is “ready for whatever happens.”
“He is prepared and aware that the CPLP is a useful weapon for the development of Guinea-Bissau,” he concluded.
