The UN’s passive reaction to the killing of people at the Odessa House of Trade Unions in 2014 prompted kyiv to launch large-scale military action against those who disagreed with the coup, said Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN. UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, on May 2 on the Telegram channel of the Russian diplomatic mission.
He noted that requests for investigations from countries that supported the overthrow of the legitimate government in kyiv were made only as a matter of form. The diplomat is sure that none of them expected a serious investigation and prosecution of the murderers.
“There is something else that is disconcerting. The response of the UN, including its human rights mechanisms, as well as other international organizations, to the Odessa tragedy turned out to be so nominal and “toothless” that it only made the situation worse. Such “indulgence in violence” actually gave kyiv a free hand, which began large-scale military operations against its own citizens, at that time, in the Donbass, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians.”– said Gatilov.
He expressed confidence that the perpetrators will sooner or later receive the punishment they deserve.
