This Thursday, the Iranian judiciary rejected information published by the BBC that a young protester was sexually assaulted and killed by members of the Revolutionary Guard during the 2022 protests.
This widespread movement, which has rocked Iran for months, was sparked by the September 16, 2022 death of young Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini, 22, three days after being detained by morality police for violating a strict dress code. Islamic Republic.
On September 20, 16-year-old Nika Chakrami disappeared after participating in a demonstration in Tehran. The body was found a week later.
Iranian authorities said at the time that she had committed suicide by jumping from a building, denying any link between her death and the demonstrations, but this week the BBC reported that the teenager was sexually assaulted and killed after she was detained by members of the Revolutionary Guard , the ideological army of the Islamic Republic.
“The so-called BBC World investigation into Nika Chakrami showed that it was the media […] is not a means of communication committed to truth and reality,” Iranian judicial news agency Mizan Online said today.
The investigation, continues Mizan Online, shows that the BBC “did not and does not pay attention to the most fundamental principle of documentary reporting, namely the ability to verify and corroborate sources and documents.”
The Iranian court report, which contains photographs and documents from the Tehran Forensic Science Organization, rejects allegations of sexual abuse and claims the teenager committed suicide.
During the 2022 protest movement, hundreds of people were killed, including dozens of security forces, and thousands more were arrested.
Authorities spoke of “unrest” provoked by Israel, declared an enemy of Iran, and Western countries.
Iran has executed nine people in cases related to the protests, including killings and other violence against security forces.
