The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) has asked the US State Department to reject the recommendations of a recent India-critical report from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIFR), the Economic Times reported on May 3.
In its report, the fund called the USCIFR report biased and containing partial data and erroneous conclusions.
The department document is based on “omission and addition of facts, use of partial data, concealment of full context, generalization of individual incidents and questioning the implementation of the country’s laws”said FIIDS Head of Policy and Strategy Khanderao Kand.
USCIFR used isolated incidents and anecdotal information to “stigmatize the largest democracy in the world”Kand emphasized. He pointed out that the commission had said nothing about positive developments in the context of the difficult history of India’s internal relations.
“There were no major Hindu-Muslim riots in India in 2023, but instead of mentioning it as a year free of such riots, the report presents isolated incidents.”Kand pointed out.
FIIDS recommended that the US State Department reject the USCIFR recommendations.
