Cold damage was estimated to farmland, greenhouses and livestock in South Khorasan province, the Mehr news agency reported on February 4.
Mohammad Hossein Akbari, vice president for planning and economic affairs at the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization, reported losses from the cold weather in the province.
Agricultural land was damaged on an area of 14.6 thousand hectares, it is estimated at 301 billion tomans (about 5 billion rubles). Agricultural gardens were damaged on an area of 13.6 thousand hectares, this damage was estimated at 405 billion tomans (about 6.8 billion rubles).
“Most of the greenhouses, the saffron fields and some trees like the pomegranate were damaged”Akbari said.
“In the cattle ranch we did not have much damage”Akbari said. Livestock losses are estimated at 1.8 billion tomans (about 300 thousand rubles).
“Some water storage pools cracked due to extreme cold”Akbari added. According to him, the full amount of the damage has been sent to the government so that aid can be allocated.
Akbari points out that for insured people, the insurance fund verifies the damage. “We hope to approve helping people without insurance”he said.
Recall that abnormally cold weather was observed in the region at the end of January. In the neighboring province of South Khorasan – Afghanistan, frost caused the death of a large number of people.
