The reconstruction of the Paraguaná oil refinery, the largest in South America, will be carried out by an Iranian company, the Reuters news agency reported on February 4.
According to the agency, Iran’s National Oil and Gas and Distribution Company (NIORDC) will soon conclude a contract with state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) for the reconstruction of the Paraguaná oil refinery complex in northern Venezuela.
The works are estimated at 460 million euros. Five of the nine distillation units of the complex, which carry out the primary processing of crude oil, will be reconstructed, which will allow the production of 955,000 barrels of products per day.
The term of reconstruction works is specified in one hundred days. If they are successful, in 2024 and 2025 the refinery overhaul can begin.
The agency notes that the plant was initially built using US technologies. There may be problems with the integration of new and old components due to the fact that new components will now be made in China and Iran.
Recall that in May 2022, NIORDC signed an agreement to restore the Venezuelan oil refinery El Palito with a capacity of 146 thousand barrels per day.
