Al Hilal, coached by Portugal’s Jorge Jesus, are very close to the Saudi Arabian football title after beating Al Thawoun 3-0, maintaining a 12-point lead over Al Nasr with five rounds to go.
With Ruben Neves back in the XI, the league leaders secured victory thanks to goals from Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 40th minute, Saud Abdulhamid in the 70th minute and Saleh Al Shehri in 90+7.
For the first goal, Brazilian Michael crossed from the right with his left foot, and Mitrovic appeared at the second post, behind the defense, and fired a shot between the goalkeeper and the post.
In the second, Michael’s renewed insistence in attack culminated in Mitrovic’s final pass to Saud Abdulhamid, a move that effectively sealed the match which had been dominated by Jorge Jesus’ side.
However, at 90+7, it was another impressive move from Michael, who now helped Saleh Al Shehri backheel the ball to make the final score 3-0, his 22nd successive league win.
With 15 points in the game, Al Hilal lead with 83 points, 12 more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nasr and Otavio, coached by Portuguese coach Luis Castro, with 71: Al Ahly complete the podium with 55.
Al Hilal are chasing their 19th Saudi Arabian title, which Al Ittihad won last season.
