
Awards ceremony for the “Nomads of the North” festival and the 19th International Exhibition-Fair “Treasures of the North”. “Masters and Artists of Russia 2023” took place on May 5 at the Expocenter in Moscow, the Chukotka news agency reports.
The children’s folk ensemble “Einetkun” from Pevek, directed by Vasilina Omkyrgina, won the Grand Prize of the “Nomads of the North” festival. The ensemble also took first place in the “Folk Dance” category in the children’s category. In the same nomination in the “senior” category, the national folk ensemble “Ryrky” from the village of Ryrkaypiy, led by Victor Valgyrgin, won.
The soloist of the “Ryrky” ensemble Tatyana Minenko became the best in the “Vocal” category. Only” in her category, second place went to Olesya Vukvukai from Pevek. They also distinguished themselves in the “Throat Singing” nomination: Tatyana Minenko took second place and Olesya Vukvukai took third place. The special award “Festival Stars” went to the soloist of the children’s ensemble “Einetkun” Yulia Jodonovich.
Chukotka’s exhibit at the exhibition won third prize. And in the category “Artistic processing of bone and horn (carving and engraving)” the second place was taken by the young craftswoman Nadezhda Ionova and Vladimir Alyapaak from Lorino. Maxim Ergiro and Alexandra Nypevgi from the village of Uelen received a special award in this category. Alexandra has another special award: for the best work of national popular art. The keeper of Pevek traditions, Zoya Sopka, received two special awards from the “Ethno-tour” and an award for national cuisine. Nelly Omrynto from Anadyr took third place in the “National costume (leather, ravuga)” category.

This is an annual forum that brings together representatives of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East from 25 regions of Russia, demonstrating the vibrant originality of the culture of indigenous ethnic groups.
Russia is home to 47 indigenous peoples, most of whom live in the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East. The largest investment projects are being implemented in the Arctic, aimed at the socio-economic development of macro-regions, improving the quality and standard of living of the local population. Currently, the State pays great attention to the sustainable development of indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation, improving their quality of life and preserving their original habitat.
The exhibition presents the achievements of the northern regions in the field of economic, scientific, social and cultural development: unique examples of traditional activities of the communities of indigenous peoples of the North: national clothing, products and souvenirs.
The scientific and business program of the exhibition-fair includes conferences, seminars and round tables on topics of interest to small indigenous peoples. Particular attention is paid to the issues of development and popularization among the younger generation and the possibility of attracting new technologies to preserve the oral and written culture of the peoples of the North.
