Even before the domestic violence charge came to light, José Castelo Branco was the protagonist of a controversy over violent behavior. On April 24, he was involved in a violent argument in a restaurant in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. The video shows the 61-year-old socialite placing his hand on the neck of the man he was arguing with. After this episode, the hotel where Jose was staying, owned by a friend of the couple, asked him to leave the premises. Castelo Branco and Betty have been staying at this hotel since they arrived in Portugal for the christening of the socialite’s granddaughter.
Since Betty was already in the hospital, Castelo Branco enlisted the help of her friend Marluce, who was married to former presenter Carlos Cruz. That’s where it remains these days. The couple were unable to stay in their mansion in Sintra after it was rented out to Pedro Pico, a former Big Brother contestant. Disagreements with lawyers are already involved.
José Castelo Branco does not currently have large financial resources, even to prepare his defense in this case. He protested his innocence and on Friday evening posted a photo of himself with his wife at his granddaughter’s christening. “As long as God is our foundation, there is nothing that can break us,” the release said.
Allegations of domestic violence were also denied by the husband of the diamond heiress when CM. “Do you think I hit Betty? It’s all lies,” he said during a phone call in which he said he was not aware of any allegations.
José Castelo Branco was also surprised on Friday as he left the hospital. He again avoided questions and claimed that he did not know that the authorities had gone to the hospital to listen to Betty. He always tried to convey the idea that there was no problem.
