
At least three people were killed and dozens of houses destroyed by a landslide in the Risaralda department of central-western Colombia, TeleSUR reported on May 5.
Heavy rain caused a landslide that caused serious damage. An avalanche of water and mud destroyed dozens of houses, several people were injured and about 100 people lost all their property.
Colombian military units have been sent to the municipality of Dosquebradas in Risaralda to provide assistance to the affected population. Emergency teams rescued four people, including three minors. A part of the town was evacuated because heavy rains are expected in the next few hours.
“The avalanche completely destroyed about 30 houses, fortunately there were no victims. “We have three injured people, two are recovering and another had to be transferred to Medellín due to the severity of the injuries.”explained the mayor of Montebello, Oscar Ernesto Cuervo.
