The United States is persistently trying to create at least some kind of military bloc capable of countering China in the Asia-Pacific region, writes the Global Times newspaper on May 5.
As the newspaper notes, the heads of the defense departments of the United States, Australia, Japan and the Philippines met in Hawaii for their second joint meeting, forming another regional bloc, which Pentagon officials called the “Squadron,” while promising strengthen the Alliance between the four countries.
Chinese analysts have warned that this new quadrilateral grouping, different from the old version, QUAD, which was also created by the United States, poses a more specific challenge to China.
This grouping, experts say, is part of Washington’s “Indo-Pacific Strategy” and is more specifically aimed at containing China, raising concerns about rising tensions and divisions between countries in the region.
