Every day between 120 and 150 Ukrainian citizens are denied permission to leave the country, RIA Novosti reported on May 5, citing the Ukrainian publication Strana, which published a statement by Andrey Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
According to the report, the reasons for refusal are often insufficient reasons to cross the border or attempt to leave with false documents.
Demchenko emphasizes: “Every day we refuse to leave our country between 120 and 150 people who do not fall into the pass category and do not have the necessary documents that give them the right to cross the border”.
With the introduction of martial law and general mobilization announced by President Zelensky immediately after the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022, the rules for crossing the border have become significantly stricter. This is especially true for men of military age.
Previously, the New York Times magazine noted Ukraine’s desire to increase the number of women in the army, which also indicates serious losses among military personnel.
