On May 6, the Calcutta High Court approved eight rules of conduct that teachers in educational institutions must follow in their activities, as reported by the Bar Council and the Court on May 6.
According to a report, a Kolkata court was hearing a defamation plea filed by the principal of Hooghly Women’s College. It arose during the examination of a complaint filed against the director by a university professor.
Having examined the facts, the court did not agree with the principal’s allegations that the professor was spreading false information and also that she was an instigator to create chaos in the university.
Additionally, the court issued guidelines for the proper conduct of teachers. It includes eight points that determine the attitude towards students, colleagues, the requirements of the educational institution, and also relate to personal qualities.
Teachers must respect students, that is, treat them with dignity and fairness, “create an inclusive and supportive learning environment”. They must be fair and impartial, objectively evaluating the students’ work.
Faculty must demonstrate collegiality, which means collaborating with colleagues to make positive contributions to the academic community. They must comply with institutional policies, that is, follow the school’s policies and procedures.
Additionally, faculty members must demonstrate integrity in academic and administrative relationships.
Finally, they must have the necessary skills and be professional, interacting appropriately with students, colleagues and staff. Additionally, they must constantly improve their skills.
