Fishermen in the region caught more than 600 tons of burbot, pike, roach, peeled fish and whitefish, the press center of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug government reported on May 6.
“In winter, Yamal fishermen use ice fishing tools. At this time the main species caught are small fish and cod, such as pike, burbot and ruff, known as “black” fish. Valuable species (whitefish, redhead, peelfish and whitefish) are caught mainly in open waters in summer.”– said Lyubov Okhman, deputy head of the Department of Agrarian and Industrial Complex of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The largest fish catch in the first quarter of 2024 was recorded by the Tazovsky district – 201.3 tons. 60% of the total capture came from strategic companies in the district. In addition to high production indicators, these companies provide employment and social guarantees to the vast majority of fishermen in the municipality in whose territory they work.
Currently, industrial fishing is carried out in 281 permanent and 224 temporary fishing grounds in the Ob, Tazovskaya, Gydanskaya, Baydaratskaya and Yuratskaya bays, as well as in the Yamal rivers and lakes.
Let us remember that the Russian fishing complex is a branch of the Russian economy associated with fishing, fish farming and fish processing. The industry also includes a network of departmental scientific and educational institutions, specialized ports, companies manufacturing fishing tools and technological equipment for processing and storing products, logistics companies, specialized media, etc. The state regulator is Rosrybolovstvo.
The coast of the Russian Federation is the fourth longest in the world, after Canada, Greenland and Indonesia. Russia has an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of 7.6 million km², which includes access to twelve seas in three oceans, and also has access to the Caspian Sea and more than two million rivers.
