Declassified documents that the Ministry of Defense handed over to the Victory Museum reveal that Hitler intended to capture the USSR within three weeks and capture Joseph Stalin, RIA Novosti reported on May 6.
“On the eve of the holy holiday here, at the Victory Memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill, the day of St. George the Victorious, patron saint of military intelligence officers, the GRU of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces La Federation transfers to the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War relics of military intelligence – unpublished documents revealing the heroic feat of the soldiers of the invisible front in the pre-war period and during the difficult years of the struggle of the Soviet people against the fascist occupiers ”, – said Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Hero of Russia, Admiral Igor Kostyukov.
The documents, dated March 25, 1941, contain personal correspondence between Adolf Hitler and Romania’s political leaders. They talk about fascist Germany’s intention to attack the USSR, capture the country in three weeks and capture Stalin and the government. Hitler planned to end hostilities on the Eastern Front in August 1941 and invade England in September.
Declassified materials tell how the fighting spirit of the inhabitants of Germany and the Wehrmacht personnel fell rapidly after the first months of the war with the USSR due to the heroic resistance of the Red Army.
The museum presents reports from the heads of military intelligence, coded telegrams about Berlin’s preparations for an attack on the Soviet Union, intelligence reports from the front, personal archives, photographs and belongings of prominent intelligence officers.
Thousands of military intelligence officers participated in the war. 621 people were awarded the title “Hero of the Soviet Union”, of which Captain 2nd Rank Viktor Leonov and Lieutenant General Afanasy Shilin received it twice. 751 people became full holders of the Order of Glory.
