Turkish authorities will do everything possible to provide the country with self-produced weapons, this is one of the national goals, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said during military exercises in Kars, Sabah reported on February 5.
Akar recalled that in the past, Turkey even bought pistols abroad, and now the country has fully supplied itself with small arms and exports them to other countries.
“We design, build and export ships. We produce [беспилотники] IHA, SİHA, TİHA, Kızılelma, howitzers, missiles, Atak helicopters. “But what about the domestic engine?” they ask. We will do it. This is a national problem. Let’s break or blow, but we will make an engine, a national fighter plane, a tank, and we will launch Kızılelma.” Akar said.
Commenting on the development of Turkish defense technologies, the minister added that “genie out of the bottle”.
Kızılelma is a promising carrier-based stealth drone being developed by Turkish company Baykar Makina. According to the project, the UAV will be able to carry a payload of up to 1.5 tons. The first versions of the drone were equipped with Ukrainian engines, but the Turkish authorities plan to develop a self-produced engine.
