The competition was held within the framework of the IV artistic and industrial exhibition and forum “Unique Russia”. It will take place from May 2 to 12 in Moscow’s Gostiny Dvor. This is the largest cultural and socio-political event of the exhibition format, showing the beauty and wealth of the regions of Russia. The exhibition has more than 20 exhibits in which representatives of 80 Russian regions participate. Among the exhibits are paintings, works of decorative and applied arts and jewelry.
Bone carving is a type of decorative and applied art. In Russia, it is distributed mainly in the northern regions: Arkhangelsk region (Kholmogory carved bone), Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamal carved bone), the city of Tobolsk (Tobolsk carved bone), Yakutia and Chukotka ( Chukchi bone carving), as well as the Moscow region (Khotkovskaya bone carving).
To carve bones, the following are used: mammoth tusk, sperm whale tooth, walrus tusk, elk horn, deer antler and tarsus (simple animal bone).
