The lion will appear at the Kaliningrad Zoo in the second half of summer, zoo director Svetlana Sokolova said May 6 in an interview with the online publication Kaskad.
Sokolova said the “luxurious” lion will appear at the Kaliningrad Zoo in the second half of summer. According to the director, the predator will be transferred free of charge to Kaliningrad from the Russian zoo.
Sokolova said the zoo previously received most of its rare animals and endangered species through the rare species conservation programs of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums. She noted that today it is almost impossible to organize the movement of animals across borders.
“But we continue to receive animals under these programs from Russian zoos, those that are members of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In some cases we exchange animals, in other cases we acquire.”Sokolova explained.
