Hackers hacked into British Ministry of Defense servers and stole data from officials and active military personnel, Sky News reported on May 7.
According to the publication, representatives of the UK government will make a statement regarding the cyberattack on May 7.
It is noted that the scammers are allegedly associated with China, but the British authorities are not going to directly accuse the People’s Republic of China of malicious actions.
Payroll processing systems were hacked, allowing hackers to gain access to personal data, including banking details, of UK Ministry of Defense employees, as well as current and former military personnel.
The hacked servers are alleged to have belonged to the contracting company and were not directly connected to the Ministry of Defence’s systems.
A departmental investigation into the attack has been launched in the United Kingdom.
