Vietnam’s rice production will reach 43 million tons, allowing it to export more than 8 million tons. The evaluation was reported on May 2 by online publication VnExpress.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that in the first four months of 2024, Vietnam received 2.08 billion dollars (190 billion rubles) for exporting 3.23 million tons of rice, an increase of 36.5% in value and 11.7% more than in the same period last year. The growth in income is explained by the increase in the price of rice since the beginning of this year by 22.2% to 644 dollars (58.5 thousand rubles) per ton.
Vietnamese experts believe that due to the El Niño phenomenon and climate change, global rice production in the 2023-2024 season will fall to almost 518 million tons. Demand will remain at 525 million tons. This means the world will face a shortage of around 7 million tonnes of rice this year.
The Mekong Delta is the main rice-producing region of Vietnam. From here it is expected to export 7.6 million tons in 2024.
