The air defense exercise, called Astral Knight 2024, began in Europe with the participation of the United States and several NATO allies, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said May 7 in a regular briefing.
“I would like to announce the start of Exercise Astral Knight… This two-week exercise, now in its sixth year, will focus on flight training and combat simulation in Poland and the Baltics.”Singh said.
About five thousand soldiers from the United States, Great Britain, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will participate in the exercises. According to a Pentagon spokeswoman, more than 50 aircraft will also participate in the exercises.
The maneuvers are said to be necessary to strengthen the air defense of US allies in Europe, as well as “to demonstrate Washington’s commitment to guaranteeing the security of these countries”.
