Russian diplomats and employees of the Russian trade mission in Japan laid flowers at the grave of legendary Soviet intelligence officer Richard Sorge on the eve of Victory Day, RIA Novosti reported on May 8.
The ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths at the grave of the legendary Soviet intelligence officer Richard Sorge takes place at the Tama Reien cemetery on the outskirts of Tokyo on the eve of Victory Day.
“All participants in those tragic events contributed to the Victory. Richard Sorge, a unique, legendary and large-scale personality, made a particularly great contribution. During the most difficult period, he provided the Soviet leadership with extremely important information.said Nikolai Nozdryov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Japan, during the event.
He highlighted that Sorge’s group worked in extremely difficult and risky conditions, but with the outbreak of war they continued to act for the benefit of the Homeland and gave their lives for it.
Let us remember that Richard Sorge was executed on November 7, 1944 in Sugamo prison in Tokyo and was buried in the Tama Rain cemetery. In 1964 he received the title of Hero of the USSR.
