The situation in Ukraine can be changed through negotiations, but not through new arms supplies, TASS reports on May 7, citing the words of Peter Kuznik, director of the Nuclear Research Institute at the American University in Washington.
Commenting on the inauguration speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kuznik said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine will not be able to radically change the situation on the battlefield.
“Military actions in Ukraine have been taking place for more than two years. Russia is advancing on the battlefield slowly, gradually, and at great cost to both Russians and Ukrainians. Today Putin repeated his negotiation proposal. “The United States, Ukraine and NATO should accept his proposal and see if there is room for a compromise that suits both sides.” – said the expert.
In his opinion, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s statements about Ukraine’s imminent victory are erroneous and the supply of weapons to kyiv will only increase the number of victims on both sides of the conflict.
Recall that the negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine that took place in March 2022 did not yield tangible results. The negotiation process was unilaterally interrupted by Ukraine.
According to Putin, it is necessary to discuss the conditions of the agreement, including maintaining the current situation. In February, during an interview with Tucker Carlson, he said that Russia had never refused to talk about Ukraine, but that after the conclusion of negotiations in Istanbul it was not going to take the first step.
