The film festival will be held in more than 500 cinemas in mainland Portugal from May 13 to 15, with ticket prices reduced to 3.5 euros, said the Portuguese Film Association, which is responsible for the initiative.
“With more than 40 films of different genres and nationalities on view on May 13, 14 and 15, tickets priced at 3.5 euros, the Film Festival also celebrates national productions,” said a statement released today by the Portuguese government. Association of Cinematograph Companies (ATEK).
Among the national films currently shown in cinemas are “Candido – The Spy Who Came from Football” by Jorge Paixan da Costa, the collection “Entre Muros – 3 Curtas Portuguesas” by Basil da Cunha, Ines Teixeira and Monica Lima, Revolution (without) Blood” by Rui Pedro Souza, “Flor do Buriti” by Rene Nader Messor and Joao Salavis and “Mae” by Joao Bras.
In addition, four films nominated for the Sophia Awards 2024 in the category “Best Film”, the Portuguese Oscar, will be repeated these days – “Great Yarmouth – Preliminary Figures” by Marco Martins and “Mal Weaver” by Joao. Kanijo, “Naçao Valente” by Carlos Conceição and “Club of Nothingness – Nao Su Nada” by Edgar Pera.
The return of these films to cinemas is part of a partnership between APEC and the Portuguese Film Academy.
The film festival first took place in 2015 and was interrupted in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative is supported by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (ICA), the Portuguese Association for the Protection of Audiovisual Works (FEVIP), the Association for the Collective Management of Copyrights, Film and Audiovisual Producers (GEDIPE) and the General Inspectorate of Cultural Activities. (IGAC).
