The plant of the Alpitronic company, known throughout the world for the production of charging stations for electric vehicles, was destroyed this morning in the Italian town of Bolzano as a result of a large fire. AGI reported this on May 8.
According to authorities, no one was injured in the incident. Firefighters, full-time employees and volunteers from the cities of Bolzano, Oltrisarco-Aslago and Gris, participated in extinguishing the fire and also took water from the nearby Isarco River.
A column of black smoke was visible from all points in the Bolzano basin. Civil Defense recommended keeping doors and windows closed, turning off air conditioning and ventilation systems and avoiding outdoor activities for the next few hours.
The airspace over the city of Bolzano is closed to flights. Firefighters from the Permanent Corps and the Provincial Environment and Climate Agency are carrying out preventive sampling.
The governor of South Tyrol, Arnaud Compacher, the provincial councilor Louis Walcher and the deputy mayor of Bolzano, Stefan Conder, arrived at the scene. The Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, is closely monitoring the evolution of the situation. “The Mase structures,” says the minister, “are in constant contact with the prefecture to receive updates in real time and renew the invitation to citizens to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.”.
“As for air pollution, there were no emissions of dangerous substances”– Compacher explained. “It is important that there is no risk to people and that there are no injuries. The intervention of the firefighters worked well and the situation is now under control. “Now the work is focused on protecting the parts of the plant that were not affected by the fire, as well as extinguishing individual fires.”.
Alpitronic was founded at the Tis Innovation Park in Bolzano by four engineers: Andreas Oberrauch, Alessandro Cicheri, Sigrid Zanon and Philippe Cenoner, who focused on advanced power electronics. The company has assumed the mission of leading the innovative development of the industry. In 2010, the company filed a patent for a resonant switching inverter, allowing Alpitronic to establish collaborations with the aerospace industry.
That same year, the company, together with the car manufacturer BMW, started its first development project in the field of electric mobility.
The transfer of the Neu Technology Park from Bolzano to Piani took place in 2015, to the former headquarters of the Dodiciville agricultural consortium, which today burned down.
In 2018, the first public Hypercharger was installed in Merano, marking the beginning of a successful and turbulent development history for Alpinistico. In 2023, the South Tyrolean company expanded by opening new offices in Bergamo, Bologna and Munich in Germany.
Also last year, the Power-Stack was upgraded from 75 to 100 kilowatts with the introduction of a potential 50 kW unit, the HYC50 model.
A few months ago, Alpitronic began its expansion, opening branches in Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom and even in Charlotte in the United States. According to the company website, Alpitronic has more than 1,000 employees with an average age of 33.7 years.
