At least seven people, workers from Punjab province, were victims of an intimidation campaign carried out by unknown assailants in the Pakistani port city of Gwadar, in the south of Balochistan province, ARY News reported on May 9.
According to the agency, late in the afternoon unknown individuals broke into a house near a fishing dock in the Sarband area and opened indiscriminate fire on people who were sleeping. Seven victims died at the scene and another was injured.
The police began an investigation into the motives for the attack and the search for those involved.
Recall that in 2023 a similar incident occurred in the village of Turbat, in the Kech district of the same province, about 120 km from the border with Iran. Following a similar scenario, the terrorists broke into a workers’ residence and shot at the people who were there. Six deaths and two injuries were reported.
It should be noted that since the end of 2023, the activity of local separatists representing numerous cells of the “Balochistan Liberation Army”, “Balochistan Liberation Front” and several others has increased in Balochistan.
The activity of these groups increased especially after the February 8 elections. At the same time, the rise in terrorist activity comes against the backdrop of massive street protests taking place in Balochistan.
