Pope Francis has postponed a visit to Kyiv until he can visit Moscow, the Vatican press office said on February 5.
The press office said that, as Pope Francis made clear, he “he does not intend to go only to Kyiv, there must be Moscow”for such a trip would clearly be political in nature.
The press office quoted the Pope as saying that if “I did not go to Kyiv, it was only because at the moment it is impossible to go to Moscow”.
According to the press service, the pontiff remains fully open to dialogue and willing to help find a solution, however “any initiative must be open to the parties in conflict”.
Francis affirmed that the conflict in Ukraine is not the only conflict in the world. He listed: “For years there has been a war in Syria, for more than 10 years Yemen has been mired in war, in Myanmar the Rohingya are forced to leave their homeland, everywhere; In Latin America, there are so many sources of conflict”. “War is always self-destruction” said the pontiff.
Let us remember that Pope Francis previously reported that, through the mediation of the embassy, the Holy See promotes the exchange of prisoners between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, transferring the Ukrainian lists to the Russian side.
