Pakistani opposition parties held a joint seminar in Islamabad condemning the interference of Pakistani military elites in politics, Dawn reported on May 9.
Representatives of several opposition movements participated in the seminar, organized on the eve of the anniversary of the bloody clashes between supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s opposition Justice Movement (JM) party and the police on May 9. . 2023 in various cities of Pakistan. In his speech, PYD General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan’s Parliament, Omar Ayub Khan, condemned the content of the press conference of the head of the Inter-Services Press Service of Pakistan (ISPR), in which he invited the PYD to repent for May 9.
Another PAS member, Hamid Khan, reminded the crowd that democracy does not tolerate military interference and that East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) was lost because the state ignored the rights of the people living there. He also pointed out that the ISPR chief has no right to say that “Everything is now clear about the clashes of May 9”.
MWM chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that if martial law is imposed or attempts are made to rewrite the country’s constitution, the people of Pakistan will take to the streets.
In turn, the former speaker of the Pakistani parliament, PYD deputy Asad Qaiser, announced that the opposition plans to hold a series of similar opposition seminars in several cities.
