A 75-year-old man from Missouri, in the United States of America (USA), strangled his ailing wife to death in her hospital bed, claiming that he could no longer pay for his ongoing kidney dialysis treatment.
In accordance with The keeperRonnie Wiggs was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with femicide (a gender-based hate crime).
According to a statement released by prosecutors Saturday and cited by the newspaper, Wiggs accompanied the woman to a hospital in Independence, Missouri, so she could receive a new medical device that would allow her to continue receiving kidney dialysis.
Wiggs fatally strangled her by covering her nose and mouth to prevent her from screaming as she lay in bed.
Prosecutors say Wiggs left the hospital after the killing but returned when staff found his wife dead. Within earshot of at least one hospital employee, Wiggs admitted, “It was me. I killed her. I strangled her,” KCTV reported.
