Seattle-based startup Carbon Robotics has received new investment from NVentures, the venture capital arm of NVIDIA, to support agricultural solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI), online agricultural news platform AgroPages reported on August 9. May.
The amount of money invested was not disclosed. So far Carbon Robotics has already raised $85 million (7.8 billion rubles). The company makes LaserWeeder, which relies on artificial intelligence to find the right plants in fields and then uses a laser to kill weeds. The device is powered by 24 NVIDIA GPUs that process 4.7 million images per hour.
LaserWeeder is capable of removing 5,000 weeds per minute and is touted as a way for farmers to reduce weed control costs by 80% while increasing the yield and quality of their crops. The manufacturer highlights that its “solution eliminates the need for traditional methods of applying chemical herbicides, manual labor or tillage.”
Carbon Robotics founder and CEO Paul Mikesell said that by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, farmers will be able “create the farms and food systems of the future that are more productive, efficient, healthy and profitable”.
