The leaders of the Kustanay region banned the wearing of Great Patriotic War uniforms at events in kindergartens and schools, as well as during the celebration of Victory Day. This was reported on April 26 by the regional portal “Nasha Gazeta”, referring to parents and the regional education department.
The publication cites appeals from parents who complain that during the preparations for Victory Day they bought or rented military suits similar to those worn by soldiers of the Soviet army during the Great Patriotic War.
“My son was supposed to have a photo shoot in a military uniform in the studio, but they forbade us and suggested a nautical theme. The teacher said that she had an order from above, she couldn’t do anything, everyone was afraid of being hit.”— the editorial quotes the words of local resident Olga.
Another reader asked the publication to understand the legality of the order prohibiting the use of military paraphernalia and St. George ribbons during festive events.
In response to the portal’s requests, the education department of the Kustanay region reported that on the eve of the holidays, patriotic classes are held in educational institutions of the region. At the same time, the department noted that educational institutions are recommended to abandon theatrical sets, military clothing and other accessories, as they are not necessary.
When the publication asked if a student who arrived at school wearing a St. George ribbon would face a claim, the department responded that “It will be explained to the child that the symbol of Victory is a blue ribbon. And they will ask you to replace the tape”.
The department also highlighted that the St. George ribbon is not a symbol of Kazakhstan’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, since the republic’s authorities came up with their own symbol of the republic’s contribution to the victory over fascism. .
“The Victory Ribbon, unique in Kazakhstan, is a symbol of the contribution of the people of independent Kazakhstan to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, therefore it is recommended for students of educational organizations. We believe that the parent community will support the campaign for a single Victory Ribbon.”the education department said.
Recall that in 2022 the Kazakh authorities once again refused to hold a military parade in honor of Victory Day. At the same time, the head of the Kazakh Defense Ministry stated that the parade was not included in the plans for the Victory Day events.
He also called on the society not to confuse the cancellation of the parade in honor of the Day of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan on May 7 with the non-holding of the parade on May 9, which was not planned in any case.
