11 people were injured when the plane took off at Senegal airport

Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar was reopened to traffic this Thursday, hours after an incident involving an Air Senegal Boeing 737 that injured 11 people, the local airport authority announced on social media.

“We would like to inform you that Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) has reopened. Airport operations have resumed as normal,” said airport operator LAS, a trio consisting of Turkish group Limak, state-owned AIBD and another Turkish company Summa. , following an incident that occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday.

The aircraft incident occurred during takeoff of a Boeing 737 bound for Bamako and resulted in “11 injuries, four of which were serious” among 78 passengers.

According to the same source, six more passengers were admitted to the airport’s medical services for observation.

The incident comes as three other Boeing planes have recently been involved in incidents in the United States, Canada and Turkey, adding to doubts about the company’s planes as North American federal authorities investigate the quality and safety of its safety measures. to the EFE news agency.

It emerged on Monday that US federal authorities are investigating Boeing after the plane maker admitted in April that it “may not have completed” wing assembly checks on some 787 Dreamliner planes.

The investigation began after a former company employee, engineer Sam Salehpour, reported that the fuselage of the 787 Dreamliner was poorly assembled and could break in flight.

Before the complaint was filed, the plane maker was already in deep crisis after serious quality problems were discovered in its 737 MAX models and were the subject of a Federal Aviation Administration investigation.
