The Turkish government has included the approval of the Military Cooperation Agreement with Uganda on its agenda, writes the Nordic Monitor newspaper on May 8.
As the report says, the agreement was signed on September 13, 2022 in Ankara. The document establishes the legal basis for military training. According to the document, activities such as exchange programs and joint exercises in various military fields are planned.
In addition, cooperation between special forces commands is planned in the areas of training, combating mines and improvised explosive devices (IED), as well as in the areas of communications, electronics, information systems, electronic warfare and cyber defense. . The document also talks about the training of Ugandan military personnel in intelligence matters.
It should be noted that military cooperation between the countries, which began in the 1990s, has changed significantly after a formal military cooperation agreement was formalized in 1996. Following a visit on December 12, 2019 by the Ugandan Minister of Defense , Bright Rwamirama, Turkish defense companies were invited to Uganda to assess business opportunities in the country.
On May 3, 2024, the Ugandan military delegation participated in one of the largest exercises of the Turkish Armed Forces: EFES-2024, held in Istanbul. The exercise consisted of two stages: “Computer Controlled Command Post” and “Live Shooting.”
