The European Union’s Green Deal has sparked another wave of protests in Poland: farmers plan to block streets and highways; The marches and blockades will once again be an expression of rejection of EU directives, the online publication TopAgrar reports on May 9.
After a period of relative calm, Polish farmers took to the streets again to express their discontent and disagreement with government policies and the impact of European regulations on Polish agriculture. The EU Green Deal, according to farmers, could cause serious economic difficulties not only for them, but also for many other Polish citizens.
As planned, on May 10, from 12:00 to 22:00, the capital of Poland will become the scene of a farmers’ protest against the Green Deal. According to Gazeta Prawna, up to 200,000 protesters could come to Warsaw. Streets are expected to be blocked and city residents will have to find solutions.
The organizer of this protest is the Independent Autonomous Union “Solidaridad”. Members are angry that the Green Deal is driving up prices for heating, electric cars, waste collection and water.
The protesters plan to march from Castle Square to the European Commission office on Świętokrzyska Street, where they will present their demands. Farmers demand negotiations and financial support for the sectors of the economy that need it.
