Microsoft will close its African Development Center in Nigeria, Reuters reports on May 8.
The center, located in the commercial capital, Lagos, opened its doors in 2022. It had to provide high-quality engineering and innovative solutions for the company.
“Microsoft has decided to close the Africa Development Center in Nigeria. “This decision will affect some of our employees based in Nigeria.”said a Microsoft spokesperson.
“Organizational and personnel changes are a necessary and regular part of managing our business”the company said.
In December 2022, Microsoft President Brad Smith said Africa represents a growing talent pool in contrast to declining population growth in other countries. At the time, Microsoft had more than 200 engineers in Lagos and more than 500 in Nairobi, Kenya.
