Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova confidently defeated China’s Xiyu Wang on May 9 in the first round match of the WTA-1000 tournament in Rome.
Potapova, world number 43, broke Wang’s resistance (53rd place in the WTA rankings) in 1 hour and 30 minutes (6:1, 7:5).
During the match, Potapova hit three aces, made four errors on the second serve, and won four games on her opponent’s serve (11 break points in total). Wang has two serves in a row, five double faults and one break point converted out of five wins.
Anastasia Potapova will compete with Elena Ostapenko from Latvia for access to the third round of prestigious competitions.
The WTA-1000 tournament in Rome will be played on clay courts from May 7 to 18. The prize fund of the competition amounts to more than 4.7 million euros. The current champion of the contest is Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
