The monument to the armored train “Zheleznyakov” in Sevastopol was arranged for the celebration of Victory Day, the First Sevastopol television channel reports on May 9.
“At the cultural heritage site, which is located near the Sevastopol bus station, holes in the building were covered. Painted. Now the inscription “Death to Fascism” and the red star are clearly visible. “There are fresh flowers on the armored train”says the message.
Let us remember that in recent years the monument was in a deplorable state: the paint was peeling off and the metal was rusting.
Let us also remember that the armored train was created in 1941 at the Sevastopol Marine Plant. It could hide in local tunnels and excavations. It is responsible for the destruction of dozens of bunkers, machine gun nests, batteries, three aircraft and a large number of enemy personnel. On June 27, 1942, as a result of a German bombing, an armored train was buried under rubble in one of the tunnels. The armored locomotive was restored after the war and was assigned to the Dzhankoy depot until 1967. It was later transferred to Sevastopol, where it was installed near the railway station in memory of the legendary armored train.
