The visit “ad Limina” takes place every five years and, in addition to meetings between the prelates and representatives of the various departments of the Holy See, they also meet with the Pope, with the Code of Canon Law stating that “the diocesan bishop has the duty to submit to the Supreme Pontiff every five years a report on position of the diocese entrusted to him.”

CEP spokesman Father Manuel Barbosa acknowledged today that the issue of sexual abuse will “naturally” be present in meetings, in particular with the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Dicastery of Bishops.

“This is an inevitable topic and it cannot be any other way,” the priest said, as quoted by Ecclesia.

Today’s meeting also included a meeting between the press and representatives of the Bishops’ Conference of Europe, which will take place in Alfragida, in the municipality of Amadora, from 14 to 16 May.

“Challenges of Artificial Intelligence for Humans”, “The Church in the Digital World between Information and Artificial Intelligence” and “The Church and Artificial Intelligence: The View of the Holy See” will be the three conferences that will mark the work of this conference. a meeting of councilors and representatives of bishops’ conferences.

According to CEP, representatives of 21 CCEE members will take part in the work, who, in addition to the debates, will have the opportunity to visit the monasteries of Jerónimos and Batalha, as well as the Sanctuary of Fatima.

The Council of European Bishops’ Conferences consists of 39 members who represent the Catholic Church in 45 countries of the European continent.

Today’s meeting with journalists by CEP Secretary Manuel Barbosa, Director of the National Secretariat for Social Communications of the Church Isabel Figueiredo and CEP Communications Director Anabela Souza was also used to address the Pope. A message for World Communications Day, which falls on May 12, in which he warns that the evolution of “artificial intelligence” systems is “radically changing” information and communications, and through them “some of the foundations of civil coexistence,” advocating the adoption of an international regulatory treaty.

The pontiff believes that this change “affects not only professionals, but everyone.”

“The rapid proliferation of marvelous inventions, the functioning and potential of which are unknown to most of us, causes amazement, oscillating between enthusiasm and disorientation, and inevitably confronts us with fundamental questions: what is man, what is his specificity and what will happen next? the future of our species, called “homo sapiens,” in the era of artificial intelligence. How can we remain fully human and guide the cultural changes that are taking place towards good?” asks Francisco.
