
Commemorative events for the 79th celebration of Victory over Nazi Germany were held in the German city of Bremen, a correspondent reports on May 9 IA Krasnaya Vesna.
Employees of the Russian Embassy in Berlin solemnly laid a wreath at the burial site of Soviet prisoners of war at the Osterholz cemetery in Bremen. Parishioners from the Bremen Orthodox Church also attended the event.
In the burial section of foreigners who died in Bremen during the Second World War, members of the German club “German-Russian Peace Days in Bremen” honored the memory of the victims. The organizers of the event laid flowers at the monument to grieving mothers and asked employees of the Russian diplomatic mission to give a speech.
The head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Germany, Svetlana Enikeeva, gave a short speech. With her words she reminded those present of the numerous victims of the Second World War not only in the Soviet Union, but also in Germany.
“Our task is to counter any distortion of the truth about the Second World War”said Enikeeva. At the end of the event, poems by Anna Akhmatova and Soviet songs from the war years were performed.
